Baku is clean, safe and busier than most visitors expect.
The seaside boulevard runs for kilometres with no traffic on it.
Food is good and cheap outside the tourist streets.

When should you come?
Come to Baku in May, June, September or October, the comfortable months.
July and August are hot, and the coast fills up.
March brings Novruz, when the city empties and the regions fill.
