How does paid parking in Baku work?
Paid zones are marked with signs and painted bays. The zones cover most of the city centre.
Baku has no parking machines on the pavement. You pay with your phone.
Download AzParking before you arrive. You enter the plate number, the zone and the time.
Wardens check plates against the app. Nothing goes on your windscreen.

Where can you park near the Old City?
Icherisheher, the Old City of Baku, is mostly closed to cars. Do not drive in and hope.
Park outside the walls and walk in. The old town is small and walking it is the point.
Streets around the walls fill up by mid-morning in summer. Arrive early or use a paid car park.
Our office sits on Rasul Rza street, by the Winter Park. The office is an eleven-minute walk from Fountain Square. See how to find us.
Where should you not park?
- On yellow-marked kerbs
- In front of gates and driveways
- On pavements, even where others do it
- Within the marked zone of a bus stop
- Second row, next to a parked car
The last one is common in Baku and still gets fined. Do not copy it.
What about hotel parking?
Central Baku hotels usually charge for parking. Hotel parking is not included in the room rate.
Ask before you book, especially near Fountain Square and the promenade.
Hotels outside the centre often park cars for free. Free parking can decide where you stay.
Where are the paid zones?
Baku paid zones cover the areas tourists actually use. Fountain Square, Nizami street and the streets behind them.
The promenade and the ground around the walls are paid too. So is most of Nasimi district.
| Area | Paid? | How busy |
|---|---|---|
| Fountain Square and Nizami street | Yes | Full from mid-morning |
| Around the Old City walls | Yes | Full in summer |
| The promenade | Yes | Busy in the evening |
| Outside the ring road | Mostly no | Easy |
| Shopping centres | Own car parks | Easy |
Is parking easier outside the centre?
Parking is much easier outside the centre of Baku. Paid zones thin out quickly as you move away from the sea.
Shopping centres have large free or cheap car parks. So do most restaurants outside the middle.
Outside Baku, parking is simply free. Gabala, Sheki and Quba have no paid zones.
Does the car size matter?
Yes, car size matters more than you expect in Baku. Central streets are narrow and the bays are short.
A compact car fits places an SUV cannot. If your trip is city-heavy, take an economy car.
Going to the mountains as well? Then take a crossover and accept a longer walk in town.
Paid parking in Baku is cheap. The ticket for ignoring it is not.

Common questions
Do I need a local phone number for AzParking?
You do not need a local number, but an Azerbaijani SIM makes AzParking simpler. Ask us if you have trouble registering.
Can I pay for parking in cash?
No, you cannot pay for parking in cash. Central Baku zones are app-only, so set the app up on day one.
What happens if I forget to pay?
Pay the same day if you can. In Baku after 22:00 an extra 10 AZN is added.
Who pays a parking ticket on a rental car?
You pay the parking ticket on a rental car, not us. See our Baku deposit guide for how that is handled.
Is parking free at the airport?
At Baku airport short stops are cheap, long stays are not. We collect the car instead.
Can I leave the car overnight on the street?
Yes, and it is free in Baku after 22:00. Pick a lit street rather than a back alley.
