Yes, a rental car is usually worth it for a family of four. Day trips out of the city are where the sums move.
In town a taxi is cheap and easy, even for four people.

Is a crossover worth the extra money?
A crossover is not worth the extra money for a city week. A saloon does the same job.
For Quba, Gabala or Shamakhi, the higher seat helps on long days.
A crossover also swallows a pushchair without a fight.

When does a family need a minivan instead?
- Five or more people. A saloon is finished at four.
- Four cases and a pushchair. The boot runs out first.
- Ski or beach kit. Long items need a flat floor.
- Grandparents travelling too. Sliding doors help a lot.

What does a family week cost to run?
Fuel is the main running cost, and it is low in Azerbaijan.
AI-92 petrol costs 1.10 AZN a litre at every station in the country.
A week of touring uses about 55 to 65 AZN in a saloon.
Paid parking in the centre costs 1 to 2 AZN an hour.
What are the terms for a family booking?
The Baku deposit is 200 to 300 USD, depending on the car.
The minimum rental is two days and there is no mileage limit.
